Median Home Prices Are Falling Faster Than the Average

Revealing a widening gap between mid‑tier listings and the high‑end sales that continue to pull the market upward. It’s a pattern that mirrors the broader K‑shaped economy, where some segments rise while others fall. Overall, the number of those with $1 million or more in their accounts is up nearly 30% from the second quarter of last year but Gen X makes up 62% of millionaires. followed by boomers at roughly 31% and 6% for millennials.

Late Summer Stock Trends

The major U.S. stock indexes traded in a narrow range for the fourth week in a row, with the NASDAQ up 0.4% for the week, the Dow down 0.2%, and the S&P 500 essentially flat. The market hasn’t seen any big moves since a four-day rally that began on July 30.

Rate Rise?

Fed Awaits Inflation Data

Christopher J. Waller, a Federal Reserve governor, sounded optimistic about inflation’s trajectory but indicated he would support higher rates if progress does not continue. “If there is continued progress toward our 2 percent goal, then I am willing to support holding the policy rate at its current level, but if inflation comes in hot, I would consider a rate hike.”

Bitcoin and Jobs Uptick

The most widely traded cryptocurrency extended a rally that began in mid-August. Bitcoin briefly traded above $81,000 on Thursday. Friday’s monthly labor market report showed a monthly gain of 162,000 jobs, marking a sharp turnaround from July’s upwardly adjusted figure of 21,000 jobs added. (More)
