Stock comeback fizzles as bond yields jump, Apple shares tumble

U.S. stocks fell on Friday, reversing a rally that came on the back of Amazon earnings results and gains in semiconductor names.

The Nasdaq Composite

shed 0.4%, while the S&P 500

fell 0.5%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average

traded down 195 points, or 0.4%.

Amazon surged 11% after reporting better-than-expected second-quarter revenue.

Fed’s Preferred Inflation Gauge Eased in June

The Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation eased in June amid a temporary truce in the war with Iran. But the resumption of fighting this month suggests that the reprieve may not last.

Overall consumer prices fell 0.1 percent in June and were up 3.7 percent from a year earlier, according to data released by the Commerce Department on Thursday.
