I am thankful to be in a country that allows me to be myself and follow my dreams. Like everything in life, we cannot take this opportunity for granted and need to be vigilant to make sure these freedoms remain…for us and for future generations. The promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness was never meant to belong to only some of us. It is a promise worth protecting, expanding, and fighting for—so that future generations inherit a country that is more just, more compassionate, and more free than the one we know today. Love of country doesn't require us to believe it is perfect. In fact, I think the highest form of patriotism asks us to continually examine our assumptions, challenge beliefs we've long held, and work toward a nation that more fully lives up to its ideals. I'm thankful to be here. And I believe our greatest act of patriotism is ensuring that those same opportunities remain—not just for ourselves, but for everyone. |
