Momentum Shift

Stocks rallied on Friday to reverse a downward drift that had sent the S&P 500 to a five-session negative streak. At Friday’s close, prices in rate futures markets implied an 83.1% probability that the Fed would cut its benchmark rate by a quarter-point. The shift is mainly attributed to the Fed hinting at a rate cut - more on that story below. (Full Story)

US Annual Inflation Rate Holds at 2.7% in July 2025

The annual inflation rate remained steady at 2.7% in July, with price increases in used cars and trucks and transportation services offset by declines in energy costs.

Core inflation (excluding food and energy) rose to 3.1%, the highest in five months, driven by tariffs increasing prices on imported goods. (Full Story)

Fed Signals September Interest Rate Cut

Although inflation is still somewhat elevated the balance of risks appears to be shifting. Powell announced a reversal of a 5-year-old policy shift that could keep interest rates somewhat higher over the long term. Investors cheered the prospect of a likely rate cut at the Fed's Sept. 16-17 meeting. The Dow jumped 875 pts & The S&P 500 was up 1.7% at 6,475. (Full Story)

The US Open Started Last Week in NYC: Everything You Need to Know

The first round of qualifying matches started Monday, kicking off three weeks of the tournament that culminates on Sept. 6 and 7 with the men’s and women’s singles finals.

Last week, after dropping Noble back off at school for his Sophomore year in college (what?), we visited Shawn Wilson's display at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC.

After seven+ years of being prominently displayed in several locations throughout the museum, the exhibits are being taken down and replaced. Overall, it is proud very moment.

Power of Place:

Power of Place explores stories of place from across the nation and the African American experience. Henry Clay Anderson’s photographs of Greenville, MS is a portrait of black Mississippi during segregation.

Some undermine the importance of this institution, but that won’t stop black art from flourishing, including Shawn's documentation of black genealogy through the lens of Rev. Henry Clay Anderson (IYKYK).

This exhibit resulted from Shawn's documentary and book Separate, But Equal.
