Mortgage companies engaged in mass layoffs, real estate economists lamented a “housing recession” and home prices seemed poised for a correction.

Dow Rises, Tries for 5-Day Winning Streak in Last Day of August
The Dow Jones Industrial Average + rose Thursday, the last day of the month, as Wall Street tried to stretch a late-August winning streak to five sessions. The Dow climbed 77 points, or 0.2%. The S&P 500 + gained 0.2% while the Nasdaq Composite [+] added 0.4%.. The Dow got a boost from Salesforce. Shares advanced more than 5%. (Full Story)
Outdoor Dining Is Officially Here To Stay

Last Wednesday, Mayor Eric Adams signed Intro 31 into law, permanently cementing the popular pandemic-era program that once allowed dining sheds year-round and let restaurants use street space without a fee. But with the program now law, there will be a few crucial changes like imposing additional fees for using this extra space. (Full Story)
