For the First Time since 2022, Avg U.S. Mortgage Rates Fall Below 6%

Not long after the 10 Year treasury yield dipped below 4%, the average long-term U.S. mortgage rate slipped this week below 6% for the first time since late 2022. Good news for home shoppers as the spring home-buying season gets rolling. Our recommendation: get ahead of the rush now before more buyers flood the market.

Mild Recovery in the Market

U.S. stock indexes gave up much of the ground they had gained the previous week, extending a pattern of alternating gains and losses that’s characterized early 2026. The Dow finished down 1.3% for the week, the NASDAQ declined 0.9%, and the S&P 500 slipped 0.4%. Keep an eye out for the new jobs report, earnings, and inflation data. (Read More)

Core Wholesale Prices Rose 0.8% in January, Much More Than Expected

Producer Price Index (PPI) for January 2026 showed core prices up 0.8% month-over-month (far above 0.3% forecast), with annual core at 3.1%. Goods like metals (+4.8%) drove gains, while trade services surged 2.5%; headline PPI fell on energy drops. Data raises Fed caution on cuts. (Read More)

Tariffs and The Economy

After the 6-3 Supreme Court ruling which made President Trump's widespread tariff campaign is illegal, concerns over reim-bursement from financial damages this policy caused quickly emerged. A blanket 10% tariff was hastily put in place on all countries only to be replaced with a promise to increase to 15% moments later.
