This Monday, this weekend, and this year in particular, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his enduring lessons. His life reminds us that courage can be tender, that hope can be disciplined, and that community—when rooted in dignity—can move mountains. MLK Day is not only a moment to remember history, but to celebrate the enduring power of people who choose one another, even when it’s hard.
And yet, this day also calls us to tell the truth. Dr. King’s work was never about comfort—it was about transformation. He spoke plainly about injustice, the cost of silence, and the moral urgency of building a society where freedom is actualized for everyone. In a time of ongoing unrest, widening inequality, and deep divisions, his message feels more alive than ever: that peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice.
We honor Dr. King best by carrying his vision forward—through service, through solidarity, and through the daily, imperfect work of choosing equity over ease. The work is never finished.
The dream still asks something of us.
